If you have a natural gas meter inside your home or business, we will upgrade it and move it outside to improve safety and reliability. Moving your meter increases privacy and convenience by eliminating the need for a meter reader to enter your property.
Your new smart meter sends energy usage data to our billing center via radio-frequency signals and allows us to monitor usage more efficiently.
If your natural gas meter is already outside, we may need to perform maintenance on the meter or service line. When work is completed, we will need to enter your home to relight appliances and check for leaks.
We will contact you about moving your meter. In Southeast Michigan, our crews go door-to-door to schedule an appointment. If we miss you, we leave a door hanger with a phone number to call. Throughout the rest of the state, we call to arrange a service appointment.
