How it works

If you are a DTE residential electric customer and you purchase a qualified room air conditioner on or after January 1, 2023, you may be eligible for a rebate.

Qualifying room air conditioners must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications. Review our Qualified Room Air Conditioner List and purchase an ENERGY STAR®-certified room air conditioner. Limit of one room air conditioner per customer. Refurbished or resale units do not qualify for a rebate.

Please note: If you received an instant discount when purchasing your new unit at a retail store you are not eligible for an additional rebate.

 Air Conditioning Tips

Get Cool Savings

ENERGY STAR® room air conditioners use 10% less energy and can cost less than $75 per year to run, on average.

Optimize Performance

Place your room air conditioner in a shaded window. Heat from sunlight might cause the unit thermostat to misread room temperature and run longer. A TV or lamp placed near the unit might have the same effect.

Insulate for Savings

Install insulation materials included with your AC unit. Be sure to also inspect your home insulation. On average, 10% to 25% of energy used to cool homes escapes through air leaks.
