Which base rate fits your lifestyle?

These are your base rate options for providing electricity to your home. Since everyone’s electric needs are different, consider when you use electricity the most and when you can conserve it. The more flexibility you have to shift your energy use to off-peak times, the lower your bill will be.

  • Best if you can shift usage to before 3 p.m. or after 7 p.m. and all weekend long.

Off-Peak: the time when the electricity demand is low.
Mid-Peak: the time when electricity demand is moderate, typically higher than off-peak hours but lower than peak hours.
Peak: the time when the electricity grid experiences the heaviest traffic.
Critical-Peak: when extraordinary situations occur or energy demand strains the grid, like during a heat wave, when electricity use is at its highest.

*Stated base rates shown include three factors: (1) capacity and (2) non-capacity charges within power supply charges and (3) distribution within delivery charges. All other surcharges, including Power Supply Cost Recovery (PSCR), are not included in the stated base rate.

No two houses are the same, so DTE has options to give you a special rate depending on your needs. Specific equipment or a separate meter is required to utilize specialty rates.

CoolCurrents®

If you have central air conditioning or a whole-home air source heat pump, and can install an additional smart meter and a 24-volt power source connection.

  • During times of peak electric demand, allow DTE to interrupt your air conditioner or air source heat pump in exchange for a discounted rate when compared to the Time of Day 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. rate.
  • Save up to 32% on the cooling portion of your energy bill, and, if you have an air source heat pump, save up to 20% on the electric heating portion.
Charging Forward

Electric Vehicle Rate

If you’re an EV driver, you can qualify for this rate by investing in having an additional meter installed at your home:​

  • The separate meter will be dedicated solely to your EV charger and allow you to take advantage of reduced energy costs weekdays from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. and all weekend. ​

Geothermal Time of Day


If you have a geothermal system and invest in separate wiring for a meter: ​
 

  • Take advantage of lower energy prices during off-peak hours, including 16 hours every weekday and all weekend.​
  • You can save up to 35% on the standard residential and general business service rates for energy used by your geothermal systems.

Water Heating Service Rate


If you invest in separate wiring for a water heater meter:
 

  • You can save on the water heating portion of your electric bill by using energy offered at lower prices.
  • DTE may interrupt electricity to your water heater for up to four hours per day.

Rooftop Solar & Private Generation

Get credit for solar or wind electricity you generate and send back to the grid. If you already have on-site electricity generation or are looking to invest in it, explore what this add-on can do for you.​

Are you 65 or older?
You may be eligible for a monthly credit.

If you’re 65 or older and designated as the head of your household, you qualify for a $4.25 monthly credit to your bill. That’s a savings of over $50 annually!
