Home Charger Installation Program
Charging your electric vehicle at home is convenient. We make installing your Level 2 EV charger easy when we do the work for you.
Here's How it Works
- Fill out a brief questionnaire to receive a free estimate
- Select three potential installation dates that work best for your schedule
- Select the number of payments (this will be a separate line item on your DTE electric bill)
- Sign your Home EV Charger Installation Agreement and pay your first monthly installment
Once your Home EV Charger Installation Agreement is signed and your payment is made, we will schedule a qualified electrician to install your charger on one of your preferred dates.
Average Cost to Install
We estimate the average total EV home installation cost is $1,250. The following average monthly installments are calculated using a dedicated 240-volt circuit ending in a NEMA 14-50 outlet, with up to 50 feet of wiring, when no panel upgrade is needed and the home has an unfinished basement ceiling.

Each customer’s total cost to install a home EV charger and subsequent monthly installment amounts will vary.
Home EV Charger Rebate
If you install a qualified Level 2 charger and enroll in an eligible rate, you can also apply for a $500 rebate.
How to Charge Your EV
Level 1
- Connect to a standard, three-prong, 120-volt outlet
- The charger is portable and comes with your EV
- One hour of Level 1 charging provides about two to five miles of range, depending on the vehicle model
Level 2
- Qualifies for the DTE Home EV Charger Installation and Rebate
- Connect to a four-prong, 240-volt outlet, like the one that powers your clothes dryer
- Charging can be hardwired, which requires a charging station with a conduit, instead of a plug
- One hour of Level 2 charging provides up to 30 miles of range, depending on the vehicle model
DC Fast Charger (DCFC)
- An EV must be fast-charging enabled for DCFC
- A DCFC can charge an EV in 30 minutes or less
- This is not a home charging option, only available at public locations
